There are a number of tasks that we carry out that are dangerous, difficult and may even cost lives. These jobs are a grind and risky too. Humans are now being replaced by machines in many of these tasks with the deployment of modern technology. Operators operate these machines to carry out the tasks safely and faster. This drastically minimizes or eliminates the risk involved in the task. These machines or equipments are mounted and secured on to the pickup trucks at the design stage of the pickup truck itself. This makes the equipments mobile. One such specialized pickup truck is the boom truck.

A crane is fitted into the flat bed of the pickup truck. This replaced the earlier movable crane on tracks which has to be lifted each time onto a pickup truck when needed to be deployed for work. The boom truck has the capacity to execute a variety of functions. Heavy cargo can be loaded and unloaded using the boom trucks. They are versatile. The crane can rotate 360 degrees as well as move about easily.

Boom trucks carry out different tasks. These tasks are specialized. The equipments mounted on to the trucks are therefore different to suit specialized tasks. These aids in undertaking various tasks under difficult conditions and terrain. The all terrain boom trucks are useful to operate in difficult and rough terrain to load and unload cargo and equipments. Safe loading and unloading along with movement of the load is achieved. Quite heavy equipments are better loaded and unloaded by the knuckle boom truck. The telescopic boom trucks have the additional facility of increasing its range and reach. The bucket boom truck aids to specifically lift people to places that are difficult to be reached. It becomes easier for people to carry out trimming of trees with the bucket boom truck.

Boom trucks are owned by companies carrying out specialized services. These different kinds of boom trucks are quite expensive. Companies turn to lenders to finance their purchase of boom trucks. The traditional lenders are not particularly keen to finance them.

Finance companies who lend money for purchase are the ones who are familiar with such purchases. It becomes very attractive to approach the used commercial truck market for cheaper boom trucks.

The concept of retail has at its basis the presentation of goods or services to a consumer base in the effort to entice the customers to make a purchase. In all the time that capitalism has been in effect, despite its many forms and regulations this basic tenet has not changed. What has made a significant change is the cost related to this shipping of products to retail facilities.

Adjusting the costs for inflation, a gallon of gasoline in 1970 would cost approximately $1.60 compared to its current price of over twice that. But more important than the outright cost of fuel is the inconsistency and inability to control that cost. Unlike most products that adhere to a supply and demand interaction with regard to price, fuel is unique in the introduction of international politics to the equation. In the early 1970s the so called oil crisis was not the result of inadequate supply, but a conscious decision by members of OPEC to reduce production and delivery to the US as punishment for American support to Israel.

But it is not just the cost of petroleum that has made it more expensive to move product from place to place. The cost of packaging, much of it made from petroleum has also increased. We can seen the increase in our supermarkets, the cost of paper bags had always been more than for plastic bags, but that is no longer the case.

From the beginning of the nation the notion of delivering packages and mail was an especially important process. The postal service was a mammoth enterprise with a truly nation building impact. Benjamin Franklin became our first postmaster general in 1775, earlier than the signing of the declaration of independence. Unfortunately, mail delivery was not equally available to all Americans.

The impetus for this daunting task was the pathetic state of mail delivery to that point. The gold rush had accelerated pioneer travel to California, but there was no effective means for getting packages there. The population of Los Angeles did not receive notification that California had been admitted to the union for over six weeks after it had occurred.

The quest to provide truly equal delivery of the mail to every part of the US continued as Congress designated first the waterways, then the railways official postal service. The effort was dynamic but disproportionate. Even for the areas East of St Joseph Missouri which marked the end of the early phases of the railway cities received free mail delivery, but farm areas did not. It took the effort of the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry a farming advocacy group started in 1867 and 33 years to get the service started.

The fairness of the practice belied the cost of delivering the service. Eventually the idea of prepaying for postal service was made compulsory to deal with the expense of making the deliveries. This cost would be amplified as the effort to extend service to the west all the way to California was attacked in earnest. The pony express was probably one of the nations more notable and romantic efforts in the continued work to assure total international package delivery.

Today we take the ability to transfer packages across the nation and across the globe for granted. We even have the ability to get things delivered throughout the US overnight and anywhere in the world in just a few days. This has allowed the process of doing business to become and remain truly international. But despite all our progress, it is folly to enter into any business with carefully assessing the cost related to shipping.

According to statistics every year EU businesses are paying out over 8.5billion due to loses through cargo crime. This astonishing pay out is of course not acceptable in any way but many commercial vehicle owners are not protecting their vehicles as well as they could be to ensure that these criminal activities cannot take place.

Many cargo theft incidents are carried out in an extremely organised fashion with targets often using the most popular transport routes, it is quite obvious why cargo carriers are an attractive target with their often super-high value contents. This means that if you own a commercial cargo vehicle you will always be at risk unless you have the correct commercial vehicle security in place. However there are some other useful tips on how you can avoid being a victim to these crimes, here are some of the ways in which to do so:

Check your vehicle security before sleep breaks. Many commercial vehicle drivers feel that they are safe asleep in their vehicles in lay-bys or secure lorry parks. Just because you are in the vehicle itself does not mean that criminals will be deterred. Make sure that all the appropriate locking systems and other vehicle security features are in place before you take your nap. There is an alarming trend of criminals removing cargo contents without the driver waking from their sleep breaks.

Take your keys everywhere with you. When you need to leave the drivers cabin ensure you turn off your engine and take your keys with you. A popular trick that could be used by cargo criminals is to stop you at traffic lights and signal that your cargo doors are open. The driver then leaves the cabin, checking the vehicle doors for safety reasons, leaving the engine running and the vehicle a vulnerable target.

A slam lock is a product which, as the name suggests, locks vehicles and does so automatically once the door is closed. This resolves the problem with drivers failing to remember to lock the door or not.

Europe has seen a lot of cargo crime. In fact, such crime has been responsible for European businesses losing eight million Euros each year. Responsible for much of this crime are organised criminal groups. They possess great knowledge of the routes and the roads which gives them a distinct advantage.

Criminals have a tendency to target logistics vehicles. They are far more accessible than trains or ships and are relatively a far easier target. Further opportunities are provided with drivers, who are tired from the long journey, stopping off for rests, regular breaks and even overnight stays. The biggest attraction is that vehicles also possess the ability to carry a large mass of valuable goods, meaning large potential profit for criminals.

Drivers make mistakes; they are only human after all. Slam locks work to prevent any occurrences due to this, locking the door once shut. Criminals especially target drivers who have forgotten to shut their door so this prevents them from being such an obvious target.

When looking to secure your vehicle on long journeys, you should minimally have a slam lock or at least another form of advanced vehicle locking system. There are so many on the market nowadays e.g. immobilisers and advanced alarm systems. Some drivers resent the fact that they have to take this measure to prevent criminals taking advantage but when you are carrying goods of a certain value, it is only the smart thing to do to protect not only your goods but your personal safety.
