Beginning with entry level positions, the customer service representative is an extremely important one to the company. The manner is which they deal with customer issues can result in either the loss of that customer’s business or positive word of mouth advertising for the company. Yet another starter job is that of dispatcher. A critical position that controls the movement of shipping transactions to keep the traffic flowing smoothly and on time. At a somewhat higher level in the company’s organization chart is the broker, a middleman between the customer and company responsible for relationship management, conflict of interest resolution, new business development and the well being of both customer and company.

The auto shipping industry would be nothing without responsible employees at all levels. Chief among them may be the CDL drivers whose duty it is to get those mighty rigs down the road. Driving big rigs loaded with expensive, heavy automobiles is not for the fragile flower. It is a physical task involving diligence, alertness and accountability of those who undertake it. These drivers must be cognizant of current traffic laws, safety and road signage wherever they go. Truck mechanics with their certification earned after extensive schooling are essential to the driver’s safety and that of his cargo.

The top tier of difficulty and responsibility is the job of the shipping company’s chief operating officer. This professional business person is having his business constantly scrutinized by regulators while being ever vigilant that all the employees in whatever capacity are doing their jobs efficiently and to the high standards set by the COO.

The auto shipping industry offers a valuable service to the consumer while handling abundant risk and monumental organizational demands. Those people who are employed and stay employed with the industry must be competent, motivated and energetic. They are justly rewarded for their services. The industry is looking for full time and part time employees to fulfill a wide variety of job duties. The client service representative is not responsible for any planning, but he or she does the crucial job of kindly providing fussy customers with all required information, including quotes by phone or email, and the job of placing orders with the dispatcher who then works with the company.

Arguably, the most critical of all the jobs in the auto shipping industry is that of the diesel mechanic. There would not be an auto transport company without this position. The routine duties of the job is to ensure that the traveling trucks are in good mechanical order and safe for the driver and the cargo. The job requirements are advanced and numerous. The rewards are high pay and high esteem.

Finally, the auto processor performs the processing of customer cars between the different company terminals.

There are some companies that will offer certified courses in many, or in some cases, all of the core positions. Training for the other positions are available at community colleges, vocational or trade schools, and sometimes on the job.
