Question by PiscesPassion: Water leaks around the engine of a 1985 Ford F250 diesel truck?
My husband recently bought a 1985 Ford F250 diesel truck for $ 1000 w/out telling me… He loves it, I think it was a bad deal… very cracked front windshield, diesel smell is nauseates me, I think he could have paid less for it, etc, etc… but he loves it.
This week the truck overheated on his way home from work and ended up “parked” for a few days… My husband had no time to take a look at it due to work). Yesterday was his day off and he spent almost all day trying to figure out where the water leaks were coming from… and ultimately it seems the water leaks are around the engine somewhere.
I know this might not make sense for me as a woman who knows absolutely nothing about cars (let alone trucks), but my husband wants me to research online and see if there are any suggestions. That’s how he told me to ask, too, about “water leaks around the engine”.
Can anyone suggest anything???
I would appreciate it =)
PS: I’m trying so hard not to have the I-told-you-so attitude regarding his truck in general, because I try not to be a “nagging wife”… plus his happiness means the world to me, so I’m only trying to “help him” not be so down about his truck. Thanks for understanding this =)

ADD: I’m sorry… I forgot to add that he’s already checked all the hoses. He thinks it’s odd that the only place it “leaks” is somewhere between the starter and the transmission.
PS: How many seals are there where the face of the engine connects to the transmission?

First place to look is at the hoses. Radiator and heater hoses age and crack. When they crack, sometimes they won’t leak until the coolant heats-up and expands, pressurizing the system. So, if he can’t find any leaks with a cold engine, tell him to fill the radiator with water and fire the truck up, and see if it leaks when it’s warm. If he does find a bad hose, probably best to replace all of them, radiator AND heater.

Extreme Ford Truck Accessories – Going to the Limit
Okay so here you have it guys. Today I am going to talk to you about some extreme Ford truck accessories. When I talk extreme I am talking about some accessories that the everyday truck driver probably will not install. These accessories are more advanced and are not for the mild hearted souls that don’t live on the edge.
Extreme accessory number one – Skyjacker extreme lift kits for your Ford truck. To install a Skyjacker lift kit one must understand that much more is involved then the kit. First we must decide how high we want to go. Once this is decided our next task is deciding on wheels and tires. Simply put stock wheels and tires will not work. The Skyjacker Complete Lift Kits will push ground clearance and aggressive looks of your truck to new heights, letting you conquer on or off-road obstacles with complete confidence. As Skyjacker says the sky is the limit when it comes to how much lift you want to put into your truck.
Extreme accessory number two – RBP True cold air intake. The RBP cold air intake will increase the horsepower of your Ford truck and improve torque. Each intake is custom fit for your specific model of Ford truck. RBP is one the best performing cold air intakes for the Ford that we have found on the market. If you are serious about airflow then these intakes come highly recommended.
Extreme accessory number three – Borla Cat Back exhaust system. The Borla exhaust system id for the truck owner that is looking for much more then sound out of there truck. This system delivers performance hands down that is my opinion is untouchable in the aftermarket exhaust industry. The Borla cat back system offers great gains in horsepower for your truck, and when teamed up with a good intake and a tuner you will gain some extreme horsepower from this investment. Even without anything else the Borla exhaust system gains are definitely noticeable and the sound is almost non existent until you hit the throttle and that is when this exhaust comes to life.
Extreme accessory number four – Bully Dog triple dog tuner. The Bully Dog tuner is a must if you are looking for the full potential of your other additions such as the performance mode mentioned above on your Ford truck. Without getting into to many details on why I feel this is the best choice in tuners I will say that having 4 different power levels and on the fly control is what brings this tuner to the top for me. The Bully Dog is the best performing tuner in my book hands down however I will also gibe the Superchips two thumbs up for the Ford.
Extreme accessory number five – EBC Slotted rotors. Now some may find it strange that I added brakes to the extreme lineup but think of this. If you increase power then you need to increase stopping power. When playing with our new added toys our brakes take a beating. A set of good slotted rotors helps to keep them cool. Don’t forget some good quality pads to go along with them.
So there you have it folks. These are my top extreme picks for now. Ther

Mickey Thompson Tires: Truck and Off-Road FAQ
If you are planning to outfit your truck or your off-road vehicle with Mickey Thompson tires, you obviously haven’t taken the decision of tire selection lightly. So much is riding on your tires, such as your safety, maneuverability and overall driving experience. Know for certain that you have selected the tires that are right for your intended use. Read below as we answer some commonly asked questions regarding Mickey Thompson tires and then search for a local provider.
- Why would I want to consider a radial tire? Radial tires encourage both uniformity and steering response.
- Why would I want to consider a bias tire? Are mileage numbers and tread life important to you? Would you like increased off-road protection? If so, a bias tire may be the right fit for you and your vehicle.
- When is a wide tire a good selection? When floatation, stability and aesthetic appeal are important, wide tires deliver.
- How about a narrow tire? What does it offer? Think traction. If you spend a good deal of time navigating your truck or off-road vehicle through mud, a narrow tire may be an excellent purchase.
- How will I know the maximum load? All Mickey Thompson tires have the maximum load and inflation right there on the sidewall so it’s impossible for you to forget and unnecessary for you to guess.
- How full should I pump my tires with air? There is no across-the-board answer to this question. Answer it yourself by inflating until there is a full-ground footprint.
- I want maximum performance from my tires. How do I achieve this? Look to your rims. By using rims that are the right size for your tires, rotating the tires, keeping them inflated and making sure the alignment is sound, you will give your tires the aspects they need in order to be full functional.
- How often do I rotate Mickey Thompson tires? Every 3,000-5,000 miles, take your vehicle in to a service station to have the tires rotated.
How do I know these tires will work for me? Feel secure knowing that Mickey Thompson extends a warranty on this type of tire. If there are any defects in workmanship or materials, their tires that are approved for use by the Department of Transportation will fall under the warranty.
